Spring 2021 High Point Market: Best in Show

This Maitland-Smith Closs Cocktail Table made of polished brass and inlaid abalone shell caught my eye in the Hancock & Moore Showroom.
Maitland-Smith is well-known for many hand-crafted specialties, including the use of exotic seashells. Abalone shells have a strong visual appeal and can be cut and polished easily. The durable shells work well on tabletops like the one shown here and other veneered surfaces.
For over four decades, Maitland-Smith has been creating exquisite and unique decorative accessories, lighting, elegant mirrors and furniture. Founded by a London antiques dealer with the eye of a connoisseur, Maitland-Smith carries on the tradition of employing artisans who use time-honored techniques developed before the machine age. Rock House Farms Family of Brands, a North Carolina based family-owned furniture corporation now owns Maitland-Smith.
