Flea Market Shopping

There are plenty of upscale shopping centers all filled with the finest in home décor from all over the world. But I’m a bargain hunter, so today I’m heading to the Flea Market.

With over 3,000 stalls, this market has anything you can imagine.

The thrill of the search builds as I pass by the tacky trinkets, books, coins, jewelry, statues, silks, porcelains, musical instruments and enter the Tibetan and other ethnic stalls. Next, I run across trunks, artwork, bronze door knobs, antique locks and even kitchen sinks. I’m getting close! Now I’m going past the hand-painted furniture and heading around the corner. There it is, the perfect piece to finish the powder room: a beautiful blue and white vessel sink. My search is complete!

Offering an alternative to stuffy high-end shops, flea markets can be a great place to find just the right piece for your home’s decor. Here at home in Raleigh, NC there is a great flea market at the State Fairgrounds every weekend of the year. The salespeople are friendly and easy to engage. Even if you don’t buy, it’s fun and fascinating just browsing around the flea markets anywhere in the world. Happy hunting!
